    The sources we used for our project are the 22 “dime novels” that Carleton College’s Special Archives has, online articles about Jesse James, and a historical, non-fiction book called “Jesse James Was His Name”.

    Purpose: To determine the places that the novels claimed Jesse James traveled to.

    Format: Paperback novel.

    Rights: Two authors, William Ward and “Capt. Kennedy”. Due to copyright laws, all of the novels are in the public domain.

    Format: Online news article.

    Purpose: To find a historical background on Jesse James

    Rights: Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has the rights to the article.

    Privacy/Ethics: No concerns; this is a historical piece with no personal details.

    “Jesse James was His Name”

    Format: Hardcover, non-fiction book

    Purpose: To find out where Jesse James went, but specifically, to find places he traveled to without robbing (a very rare occurance).

    Rights: William A. Settle Jr. was the author and the rights belong to the publishing company, University of Missouri Press.

    Privacy/Ethics: No concerns; Jesse James was a public figure.
