Williams Hall (1880-1960)

  • Multipurpose science hall

Gridley Hall (1882-1967)

Renovated buildings

Sayles Hill-Gymnasium (1910-1979)

  • Carleton’s first recreational center
  • Converted to student center and cafĂ© in 1979
  • Location 2025: Sayles Campus Center

Northfield Public High School (1910-1966)

  • Converted to middle school in 1966, and later to Carleton’s creativity center on campus in 2011
  • Location 2025: Weitz Center for Creativity

Structurally Consistent Buildings

West Hall (1916-present)

  • Boys’ dormitory and dining hall
  • Became a co-educational residence hall in 1970
  • Connectors built to Severance Hall in 1928 and Davis in 2011
  • Location 2025: Burton Hall

Leighton Hall of Chemistry (1920-present)

  • Over time its academic departments shifted from chemistry and geology to the humanities
  • Location 2025: Leighton Hall

Laird Stadium (1927-present)

  • Track and field, football stadium
  • Underwent reconstruction after 2010 flood
