Due to the time period, hazing only existed for men. However, the sophomore men often were involved with initiating the hazing for freshmen men. For example, the \u2018cane rush\u2019 was a wrestling scrap between freshmen and sophomores. The \u2018paddle gauntlet\u2019 was a course that freshmen ran through while sophomores hit them with paddles. Finally, the tug-of-war across Lyman Lakes was an annual game where sophomores were on one island and the freshmen were on land, causing the loser of the battle to be tugged into the water between the two.
