Sources
We worked with the Alumni Relations to receive a dataset with alumni’s current country, state, city, class year, major and total alumni in that particular city. After getting rid of the white spaces in our dataset, we were ready to create informative visualizations.
Processes
ArcGIS : We used ArcGIS to map the locations of all the English alumni at Carleton. We changed a few things like the way the dots look so that it is easier to see where alumni are most heavily located. The more dense the dots, the higher the number of alumni. We also added a slider that allows a user to see a by the year look at where Carleton English alumni are located.
Presentation
For our presentation of our findings, we used both ArcGIS and Flourish to represent the English majors. With ArcGIS, we were able to create an interactive world map that plotted the current area of residence for each the English majors from 2000-2023, using a blue dot as each graduate. We also wanted to visualize some of the most common states in which the graduates currently resided. This is why we used Flourish to create a bar chart that ranked the most popular states that the graduates currently reside in.
