Hour of Power is a tradition that started in 2006 in response to the passing of Ted Mullin, a swimmer on the Carleton men’s team, due to sarcoma, a rare type of cancer. This event is held once during the Fall term each year, at Carleton and now at 170 other schools, too (Carleton College). In this event, team members participate and take turns swimming the length of the pool filling every lane continuously for the full hour in order to raise money for a variety of pediatric and youth sarcoma research, oncology programs, and scholarships. The Hour of Power has raised more than $885,000 since its inception (Carleton College).
