What are Carleton’s most popular majors?

Carleton’s Major Majors is a project devoted to showcasing the most popular majors at Carleton college from 2001 to 2021.

We found public data regarding the most popular majors at Carleton over a 20-year period, starting in 2001 and ending in 2021. Our data was retrieved from the Integrated Postsecondary Data Education system. Our data is visualized through a bar graph video that shows each of the most popular majors from year to year, including the number of each of the majors listed on the graph. This research seems to be more exploratory, as there isn’t much available and accessible information about the most popular majors at Carleton College.

Though this project gave insight into the changing popularity of majors at Carleton, it can have considerations with the broader world. For example, does the rise of computer science say anything about the wants and needs of the world, the job market, the average college student, and the like? Do these data have the potential to be helpful to historians or economists of the future to look at what the job market is like now?
