This phenomenon was shared by multiple highly selective colleges like Carleton. As said by Thiboutot, \u201cIn fact, there has probably been an increase in applications to colleges across the board because it has become easier to apply to college\u201d (Stein, <a href=\"https:\/\/thecarletonian.com\/3727\/news\/applications-fall-11\/\">Applications Fall 11% \u2013 The Carletonian<\/a>). A potential reason why the increase was higher than other colleges was an upsurge in matriculation of students of color who made up a larger percentage of the class (26.5%) than previous years.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Amherst applicants increased by ~30% from 6142 to 7927 between 2006-2013 (From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amherst.edu\/about\/facts\/common_data_sets\">Amherst Common Data Sets<\/a>) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bowdoin applicants increased by ~31% from 5401 to 7052 between 2006-2013 (From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowdoin.edu\/ir\/common-data\/index.html\">Bowdoin Common Data Sets<\/a>) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swarthmore applicants increased by ~36% from 4852 to 6615 between 2006-2013 (From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/institutional-effectiveness-research-assessment\/common-data-set\">Swarthmore Common Data Sets<\/a>) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only male and female genders are reported on the Common Data Set \u2192 this is the same with other colleges\u2019 Common Data Set as well. The category for \u201cAnother Gender\u201d is present, but there is no data reported by Carleton. Other colleges like Bowdoin and Swarthmore also don\u2019t report data for \u201cAnother Gender\u201d but Amherst does.
