Our project aims to reintroduce you to some familiar landmarks of Carleton, encourage exploration and discovery, and highlight an often overlooked aspect of Carleton’s landscape: the public sculptures on campus. Carleton hosts a wide assortment of granite, metal, and fiber sculptures across campus, many of which you may pass by daily on your way to class. Our interactive map (made with ArcGIS Online), website (made with WordPress), and 3D models (made with AutoDesk, Blender, and SketchFab) provide a comprehensive look at the significant works on campus and, for some, divulge the complicated history of the origins and intentions behind what can sometimes seem like impenetrable abstract forms.
Our research pulls from archived Carletonian issues and relevant press releases, correspondences, and pamphlets held in the College archives. We hope this digital humanities project incites your curiosity as you walk through campus and experience the outdoor art gallery that Carleton has to offer.
