The Carleton Archives has served as our primary source of information about the objects we modeled. The images of the objects have been the key piece of data we used to generate the 3D models. The objects we selected were in use over a broad period of time, ranging from 1912-2011.
Access to objects in the Carleton Archives is limited to Carleton students, faculty, and alumni, however, exceptions are made in certain circumstances. Because we are all Carleton students, we are allowed to utilize objects and data from the archives within our project. Additionally, the data does not contain any personal information about students, so we did not need to take any actions to anonymize it.
We used the Smithsonian 3D Digitization’s Voyager Story Standalone software to create an interactive and annotated experience within our 3D models. This platform allowed us to add contextual information directly into the environment that contained our 3D models. As a result, viewers are presented with a more interactive experience that enables them to live within the models.
