ThingLink Interactive Willis Hall Interior Tour
This interactive indoor tour was created with 360-degree panoramas from several rooms inside Willis Hall. As detailed in our Willis Hall renovations page, the interior spaces are more likely to undergo serious changes during the upcoming renovations, so documenting them was a key focus of the project. These panoramas were connected using ThingLink, allowing viewers to move between rooms using hotspots. This tour helps capture how the interior spaces of Willis Hall are currently experienced before any future updates occur. Historical Accuracy Disclaimer:
There are several historical photographs included in this tour, which are tagged with an orange circle with a camera icon. These photographs were sourced from Carleton College’s website and archives. Because the interior of Willis Hall has undergone multiple renovations over time, it was difficult to determine the exact room where each image was originally taken. We have placed the photographs in the locations that appeared most likely based on available information, but some images may not correspond perfectly to their original rooms.
Consent Notice:
Any individuals visible in the interior panoramas were informed that the spaces were being scanned and gave permission to appear in the tour.
Note on Coverage:
Not all rooms inside Willis Hall were scanned for this project. Private spaces such as faculty offices, as well as rooms where permission was not received, were intentionally excluded in order to respect privacy.
Scaniverse 3D Willis Hall Exterior Model
This 3D model was created using a Scaniverse Gaussian splat scan and showcases the exterior of Willis Hall. This splat scan was then processed and edited within Polycam before being embedded for interactive use. This type of model is generated from a continuous scan of the building, which records spatial and visual data and reconstructs it into a detailed three-dimensional representation of Willis Hall and its surroundings. Although we do not expect the exterior to change significantly during the upcoming renovations, as Carleton aims to preserve the historic appearance, we still felt it was valuable to capture and preserve a digital record of the building’s current form.
